Character Dance is the study of folk dances from various countries such as Russia, Spain, Poland, and India. It introduces students to the different accents and styles of dancing, improves their musicality and sense of rhythm, and develops their artistry.

In the tradition of classical ballet, all the major classical ballets (Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty) have a section of solo and group dances where each dance has the flavor of a different country. Some ballets are choreographed within a single style that runs throughout the ballet such as Don Quixote (Spanish), and Raymonda (Hungarian).
